CULTURE MOVES EUROPE

Nel contesto delle attività promosse da Condotto48, spazio indipendente gestito da artisti e attivo a Roma dal 2021, il progetto Connecting New Generations si inserisce in un percorso di ricerca e scambio culturale internazionale avviato negli ultimi anni e sviluppato anche attraverso programmi di mobilità e collaborazione come Culture Moves Europe. L’obiettivo condiviso è quello di sostenere la scena emergente dell’arte contemporanea e favorire la costruzione di reti tra giovani artisti europei, creando occasioni di confronto tra contesti culturali diversi.
Connecting New Generations. Belgrade–Rome nasce come iniziativa internazionale ideata e curata da Alessia Simonetti con Miroslav Karić e realizzata con il supporto dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Belgrado e dell’Ambasciata d’Italia a Belgrado, in collaborazione con Spazio Y. Il progetto intende rafforzare il dialogo culturale tra Italia e Serbia e promuovere il cosiddetto “ponte culturale” tra Roma e Belgrado attraverso l’incontro tra nuove generazioni di artisti.
Il progetto ha preso forma nella mostra collettiva inaugurata il 30 settembre 2025 presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Belgrado, che ha presentato le opere di dieci artisti under 30 attivi tra le due città: Giulia Apice, Verdiana Bove, Luca Di Terlizzi, Sonja Lundin, Jana Jovašević, Nikola Pavković, Caterina Sammartino, Ana Simić, Aleksandar Smederevac e Maddalena Scuderoni. Gli artisti coinvolti rappresentano uno spaccato significativo delle rispettive scene emergenti, sia per poetiche e temi affrontati sia per la varietà di linguaggi utilizzati.
La mostra è stata concepita come uno spazio di dialogo piuttosto che come un progetto legato a un unico concept curatoriale: le opere sono state presentate in relazione tra loro per far emergere affinità, contrasti e risonanze tra le diverse pratiche artistiche. Attraverso media differenti – pittura, installazione, disegno, fotografia e oggetti di piccolo formato – l’esposizione ha offerto una riflessione collettiva sulle sensibilità e sulle modalità di ricerca di una nuova generazione di artisti attivi in contesti urbani e culturali distinti ma interconnessi.
In questo quadro, il progetto rappresenta anche un momento di incontro e di discussione sul ruolo dell’arte nel creare forme di dialogo transnazionale: quali sono i temi che attraversano la produzione delle nuove generazioni? È possibile individuare linee di continuità tra scene artistiche diverse? E quali differenze emergono dal confronto diretto tra contesti culturali?
Attraverso queste domande, Connecting New Generations si configura come una piattaforma di scambio e di costruzione di relazioni durature tra artisti, curatori e istituzioni culturali. Il progetto si sviluppa infatti come un processo aperto e in evoluzione, che prosegue il percorso di mobilità e collaborazione avviato con Culture Moves Europe e che guarda a possibili sviluppi futuri: tra questi, una mostra di ritorno a Roma, nuove collaborazioni artistiche e professionali tra Italia e Serbia e ulteriori tappe internazionali del progetto.
In questa prospettiva, l’iniziativa di Condotto48 contribuisce alla costruzione di una rete di relazioni culturali fondate sull’incontro con l’altro, sull’ascolto e sul confronto tra pratiche artistiche contemporanee, con l’intento di rafforzare una comunità culturale europea sempre più interconnessa.

Connecting New Generations / Culture Moves Europe – Condotto48 Initiatives
Within the framework of the activities promoted by Condotto48, an independent artist-run space founded in Rome in 2021, the project Connecting New Generations is part of an ongoing path of international research and cultural exchange developed in recent years, also through mobility and collaboration programs such as Culture Moves Europe. The shared aim is to support the emerging contemporary art scene and foster networks among young European artists, creating opportunities for dialogue between different cultural contexts.
Connecting New Generations. Belgrade–Rome is an international initiative conceived and curated by Alessia Simonetti together with Miroslav Karić, realized with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade and the Embassy of Italy in Belgrade, in collaboration with Spazio Y. The project seeks to strengthen the cultural dialogue between Italy and Serbia and to promote a “cultural bridge” between Rome and Belgrade through the encounter between new generations of artists.
The project took shape in the collective exhibition inaugurated on 30 September 2025 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, presenting the works of ten artists under 30 working between the two cities: Giulia Apice, Verdiana Bove, Luca Di Terlizzi, Sonja Lundin, Jana Jovašević, Nikola Pavković, Caterina Sammartino, Ana Simić, Aleksandar Smederevac and Maddalena Scuderoni. The selected artists represent a significant cross-section of the emerging art scenes of their respective cities, both in terms of artistic poetics, explored themes and the diversity of languages and media employed.
The exhibition was conceived as a space of dialogue rather than a project built around a single curatorial concept: the works were presented in relation to one another in order to highlight affinities, contrasts and resonances among the different artistic practices. Through a variety of media – including painting, installation, drawing, photography and small-scale objects – the exhibition offered a collective reflection on the sensibilities and research approaches of a new generation of artists working in distinct yet interconnected urban and cultural contexts.
Within this framework, the project also represents a moment for discussion on the role of art in creating forms of transnational dialogue: what themes are explored by new generations of artists? Is it possible to identify common threads between different artistic scenes? And what differences emerge from the direct comparison between these cultural contexts?
Through these questions, Connecting New Generations positions itself as a platform for exchange and for the creation of lasting relationships among artists, curators and cultural institutions. The project is conceived as an open and evolving process, continuing the path of mobility and collaboration initiated through Culture Moves Europe and looking toward possible future developments. These may include a return exhibition in Rome, new artistic and professional collaborations between Italy and Serbia, and further international stages of Connecting New Generations.
In this perspective, the initiative promoted by Condotto48 contributes to the construction of a network of cultural relationships based on encounter, listening and dialogue between contemporary artistic practices, with the aim of strengthening an increasingly interconnected European cultural community.
